Ian Gregory
Managing Director, PI Berlin
Ian has a master’s in mechanical engineering from the University of London (UK). LLC with a specialization in alternative energy technologies. Ian began his solar career in 1998 working for the Royal Dutch/Shell Group Companies as New Technology Manager within the solar division in Europe. He was focused on developing thin film and crystalline silicon PV panel technologies. He became Global Product of the Shell PV panel manufacturing business after it was acquired from Siemens in 2001, working both in the European headquarters in Amsterdam and the North American headquarters in Camarillo, CA. Ian became Director of Product Marketing at the Massachusetts based PV panel manufacturer Evergreen Solar in 2006 that deployed a unique StringRibbon™ wafer technology. He was responsible for managing the company’s products and marketing efforts until early 2011 when he left to form SolarBuyer together with a former colleague. The company focuses on the diligence and quality assurance of PV equipment for major buyers and investors in the industry. Ian ran SolarBuyer until 2018 when it was acquired by PI Berlin. Ian now runs the US division of PI Berlin. Through his work for major international companies Ian has gained a wealth of experience in the technology, manufacturing and marketing sides of the solar industry. He uses this experience to drive the growth and expansion of PI Berlin. A little-known secret about Ian is that he successfully designed and drove a carbon-fiber car across Australia powered only by two off-the-shelf 75W PV panels!
